Sorbitan oleate is a monoester of oleic acid and hexitol anhydrides derived from sorbitol. It is a vegetable-based emulsifier and co-emulsifier for creating stable water-in-oil (W/O) creams and lotions. Compatible with a variety of cosmetic oils and active ingredients, it offers very pleasant application properties and is often used in combination with polysorbates or other high HLB emulsifiers.
Beyond cosmetics, it is utilized for the emulsification of dry machinery, paint, and in the chemical industry. It serves as an emulsifier in weighted mud for oil drilling and as a dispersant in the paint and coating industry.
